landscape house
2000 – 2001
The landscape house was not realized. Around sixty models relative to this house were made: some in concrete, others in cardboard, ceramic, plexiglas, and styrofoam. Several of them were exhibited at the Museu do Índio in Rio de Janeiro in 2003. An edition binder was compiled that brought together photos, drawings, and research notes on the project. A Devonian Press publication on the landscape house was also published in 2013.
The landscape house is a reinforced concrete structure in which somebody can live. It consists of a concrete geometric form, welded to an amorphous hump, produced by pouring the concrete rather than casting it. The house is a transition between two states: solid and liquid. It is continuous and discontinuous. A metamorphosis. The concrete gives an account of its potential failure by recording various marks and imprints, and allowing for cracks to appear and underline the passage from one state to another. The resulting silhouette is that of a rock or a small mountain, onto which one can walk or climb. It is a landscape, and it is part of the landscape.
This house takes the shape of a catastrophe.
